What is a load balancing router?
A load balancing router enables load balancing and sharing across a network with multiple Internet connectivity options or network connection resources. It combines the cumulative bandwidth speeds of various connections to provide a unified Internet connection and reduce latency while sharing, transmitting, and mixing network bandwidth.
A load balancing router optimizes and improves network bandwidth speed, overall performance, and Internet redundancy through various techniques such as bandwidth aggregation, which is used to bundle the bandwidth capacity of DSL, cable, T1, or any other Internet connection.
All traffic can be dynamically distributed over each connection or configured manually. The configuration is implemented in the load balancing router interface and assigns a specific service to an Internet connection. For example, web / network services that require high bandwidth can be assigned a T1 or the connection with the highest available bandwidth.
A load balancing router also provides redundancy by transmitting Internet connections between networks in the event of a failed connection. In addition, some load balancing routers provide the ability to learn, identify, use, and switch between the best available network paths.
