What is GovCloud?
GovCloud refers to all cloud computing and virtualization products and solutions specifically designed for government organizations and institutions.

GovCloud is a global initiative to address and design cloud solutions that meet the needs of IT and the strategic, financial and operational goals of federal governments around the world.

A GovCloud initiative takes place in many countries based on their federal and local laws, regulations, and overall strategy. However, the main goal of all of them is to provide a framework and set of guidelines for government and their controlled agencies to acquire and deploy a cloud computing solution.

Zum Beispiel erleichtert das GovCloud-Programm in den USA die Implementierung von Cloud-Computing-Lösungen nach formalen Standards und Verfahren, wobei Sicherheit und Interoperabilität im Vordergrund stehen. Sie haben mehrere Richtlinien im Rahmen dieses Programms veröffentlicht, darunter die Federal Cloud computing Strategy, den 25-Punkte-Fahrplan des Federal CIO und die NIST Cloud Computing Technology Roadmap.

GovCloud ist nicht nur regierungsspezifisch, sondern wird auch als Markenprodukt mehrerer privater Cloud provider wie Amazon AWS angeboten, die ähnliche Lösungen für Regierungsinstitute bereitstellen.
