A16Z is a number word that represents the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. The numeronym is the first and last letter of the company with the number of characters in between.
Numeronyms are an inside joke for developers as most non-techies would be ignorant of the concept. Other common numeronyms include I18N (for internationalization) and L10N (for localization).
Marc Andreessen is seen by many as a living legend in Silicon Valley. As a co-founder of Netscape, he is widely regarded as the father of the modern web browser. Hence, its VC investments are technically oriented.
