What is tunneling virus?
A tunneling virus is a virus that tries to intercept anti-virus software before it can detect malicious code. A tunnel virus starts itself under antivirus programs and then works with the operating system's interrupt routines and intercepts them to avoid detection.
Intercept programs that remain in the background of an operating system and intercept viruses are deactivated in the course of a tunnel virus. Some antivirus can find the malicious code attached to tunnel virus, but it is often reinstalled under tunnel virus. To combat this, some antivirus programs use their own tunneling techniques that reveal viruses hidden in computer memories.
