What is Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)?
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a simple protocol for transferring files. TFTP uses the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to transport data from one end to the other. TFTP is mainly used for reading and writing files / mail to or from a remote server. File transfer is one of the most important technologies for client / server and computer network infrastructures.
Trivial File Transfer Protocol ist sehr einfach im Aufbau und hat im Vergleich zu File Transfer Protocol (FTP) eingeschränkte Funktionen. TFTP bietet keine Authentifizierung und Sicherheit beim Übertragen von Dateien. Daher wird es normalerweise zum Übertragen von Startdateien oder Konfigurationsdateien zwischen Computern in einem lokalen Setup verwendet. Aufgrund seines einfachen Designs wird es selten interaktiv von Benutzern in einem Computer network verwendet. Seine mangelnde Sicherheit macht es auch gefährlich für die Verwendung über das Internet.

TFTP is very useful for boot computers and devices that do not have hard drives or storage devices because it can be easily implemented with little memory. This property of TFTP makes it one of the core elements of the network boot protocol or Preboot Execution Environment (PXE).

Data transmission via TFTP is normally initiated via port 69. However, the data transmission ports are selected by the sender and receiver when the connection is initialized.
