What is Topic Map Query Language (TMQL)?
Topic Map Query Language (TMQL) is a special XML-based language protocol based on the popularity of structured query languages (SQL). SQL was designed for a relational database to allow users to robustly search a database. Topic Map Query Language was created for topic maps that are much more dynamic and have specific data structures.
As an element of semantic web technology, topic maps are constantly changing. Topic Map Query Language needs to be able to effectively pull data from these maps. Topic Map Query Language uses two specific processes - one is information retrieval and the other is information filtering. Through these combined approaches, Topic Map Query Language enables data mining and related processes that apply to the topic map, applying traditional SQL to the relational database.
