Custom software is custom or bespoke software. The value of bespoke software over off-the-shelf software is that it can be specifically designed for important business or regulatory goals.

The term 'bespoke' is an old English term that has its roots in the clothing industry. A wealthy man who could afford a bespoke suit that was tailored to his measurements, rather than a suit made from standardized patterns, supposedly had a tailored suit.
