What is SoakSoak Malware?
SoakSoak malware is Russian malware that targets WordPress websites. In late 2014, security news reported that this particular application was able to compromise more than 100,000 websites.
SoakSoak malware alters files related to WordPress templates by introducing an object that contains potentially harmful JavaScript code. The impact can include redirecting websites and infecting a computer or device with malicious files.
The SoakSoak malware infection resulted in certain domains being blacklisted by Google and attacked by security software. The name “SoakSoak” appears to be associated with the domain (SoakSoak.ru) to which the malware sends collected information.
Like other types of malware, SoakSoak performs a low profile execution so the WordPress website users may not know that it has infected their websites.
