What is secondary cache?

The secondary cache is used primarily for storing and accessing data and programs that are accessed less frequently than the data stored in the primary cache. Although the secondary cache has more space than the primary cache, it is slower. In general, data is stored to be accessed by the processor.
The secondary cache can be viewed in several forms including:
Hard drive cache: A space reserved on the hard drive that can be used as a hard drive cache
Memory cache: Separate or integrated component of random access memory (RAM) that provides faster data access than RAM itself
Standalone Cache: integrated directly on the motherboard
