SAP integration adapter (SAP IA)

What is SAP Integration Adapter (SAP IA)?
The SAP integration adapter (SAP IA) is a component that connects a software application with a SAP environment. SAP IAs enable the conversion of inbound and outbound cross-platform messages, which are converted into XML-based messages and sent to associated SAP applications.
SAP IAs are connectors that enable cross-platform message conversion and system translation of connected SAP environment applications. SAP IAs work with SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) and NetWeaver.

SAP XI provides operating system connectivity at the platform level. SAP IAs ensure that messages are transmitted in understandable formats. SAP IAs use an XML schema for cross-communication, which means that each message is assigned according to the platform compatibility of the recipient.

SAP IAs include Simple Object Access Protocol, Java Database Connectivity, Common Object Request Broker Architecture, Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, PeopleSoft, and Siebel.
