What is Layer Authentication?
Layered authentication is an information security (IS) management technique in which the identity of a person or a system is verified through more than one authentication process. Depending on the underlying transaction, system or operating environment, it offers several levels of authentication.

Two types of multi-factor authentication are multifactor authentication (MFA) and two-factor authentication.

Layered authentication is an identity and access management process that is implemented in an environment that is at high risk and risk of fraud. It is typically used to authenticate people before granting access to a particular system and requires two or more proofs of identity for validation. For example, an Internet banking solution with tiered authentication requires at least two identity credentials, e.g. B. a username and social security number (SSN).

Similarly, in addition to personal credentials, layered authentication can also enable device-level authentication, such as combining a user name with a device's media access control (MAC) address.

An authentication layer can also be dependent on one another. For example, users are not transferred to layer 2 until they have authenticated themselves on layer 1.
