What is Clipboard Hacker Attack?
A hacking attack on a clipboard means that a hacker takes control of a personal computer's clipboard and replaces its contents with their own malicious content, which usually contains a link to a malware website. Flash banner ads are used by hackers to break into clipboards and attack security software.
Clipboard hijacking is an attack that copies a link to a computer's clipboard. Often times, this link can only be deleted when the computer is restarted. The malicious content on the clipboard is a seemingly innocuous link to a website that a user is redirected to. This website advertises a product like antivirus software that is actually a spyware application.
This method is known as malvertisement, which comes from the words malicious and advertising. The insidious nature of this attack is that this link is accidentally pasted along with any text from the clipboard, allowing users to inadvertently paste it into emails, blog articles and comments, documents, and other media where text can be pasted.
