Generator Locking (Genlock)

What is generator locking?
Generator locking, also known as genlock, is a technique for synchronizing video sources using a signal from a signal generator as a reference. Genlock allows multiple videos to be properly synchronized in situations like a TV studio with multiple cameras.

Genlock technology is used to synchronize a number of cameras with each other so that the frame rate, burst and line rate between them stay the same when the source is switched from one to the other. It is important to keep all video sources in sync and in the same phase to ensure that all video signal sources are in the same fields and images at the same time. This enables the viewer to see the correct image without distortion or delay. Genlock works by aligning the first signal from the first source with the first signal from the second source.
