What is Content Management System (CMS)?
A content management system (CMS) is an interface that allows users to publish content directly on the web. Adding content pages directly to the web is one step ahead of creating and uploading pages from a local computer because large numbers of people can add and share the data remotely.

A content management system provides a simple, easily accessible website interface that allows content to be added to a page in a very structured manner. The general approach of a CMS is to enable the creation of standards-compliant content.

In general, access to a CMS is defined for a specific group of users who can view, add, edit and publish the content in the CMS. This reduces duplication by allowing privileged users to see the working status of content that other users in the group have already worked on.

The CMS enables users to create, edit and publish content from anywhere, anytime. Because content is added to the CMS server, the operational aspects of the CMS are not installed on users' computers.

Content management systems are categorized into four different types: enterprise content management systems, web content management systems, web group content management systems, and component content management systems.
