What is contact image sensor?
A contact image sensor (CIS) is a special type of LED sensor used in scanner technologies. The contact image sensor consists of a series of sensors with red, green, and blue LED lights to aid in image capture. Contact image sensors have been popularized as a compact and low power source of imaging capabilities.
In general, contact image sensors are smaller than other types of conventional sensors, such as. B. CCD sensors, and are much more efficient due to the LED support. Although image quality can be limited, CIS helps design scanners that are designed to use less power and are made more portable. When describing this technology, the Canon company estimates that contact image sensors are over ten times more energy efficient than CCD-based imaging systems. Companies like Canon are using an approach called LIDE, or indirect LED exposure, to build CIS sensors and develop innovative optical technologies.
