What is cloud-based point of sale?
Cloud-based point-of-sale (cloud-based POS) is a type of point-of-sale system where transaction processing information comes from a remote cloud service. In general, POS refers to the place where purchases are made, e.g. B. at a cash desk or at a hostess desk (or side table) in a restaurant.

One reason cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) is making such an impact in retail environments is because many companies are realizing the utility and advantages of mobile devices as modern cash registers. This leads to an enormous change in retail and in many cases to obsolescence of legacy systems that include specialized pay machines at the POS. In an increasing number of business situations, these are being replaced by the use of a smartphone or mobile device running sophisticated POS software.
The POS software on mobile devices often consists of cloud-based POS solutions. Cloud computing providers offer web-based retail finance services for POS systems in which the data in remote vendor servers is sufficiently secured. For many companies, the benefits of cloud-based POS systems are obvious - security, data storage, and many other aspects of software operations can be outsourced to suppliers. However, it is important to review the service level agreement to clarify availability and other service terms.

Many analysts expect cloud-based POS to continue to spread across many different industries. Replacing old checkouts with mobile devices with cloud-based POS can make a lot of sense as it streamlines retail asset requirements. That is, instead of buying registers, the company can use mobile devices it owns or otherwise pooled to store during business hours if needed.
