What is Cisco Certified Security Professional?
A Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) is an IT professional who has undergone official training and is certified by Cisco Systems upon completion of certification. A CCSP was trained in network-related security software, hardware and administration. Cisco officially retired CCSP certification on November 17, 2011.
CCSPs are typically used in IT security departments as system administrators. The CCSP training usually covers the following:
- Security policy development
- identity management
The CCSP training included various technologies for building comprehensive network security solutions. To achieve CCSP certification, an expert should have strong expertise in multilevel security paradigms and network protocols that can be used in a business environment, especially e-commerce. CCSP professionals have also been trained to effectively manage local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) security to ensure the greatest possible protection of corporate resources in the most cost-effective manner.
CCSPs had the superior know-how and skills necessary to protect Cisco networks. CCSPs demonstrated the skills required to secure and manage network infrastructures to ensure productivity, minimize threats, and reduce expenses.
The CCSP certification program emphasized the following:
- Cisco Router IOS and Catalyst Switch security features
- Secure VPN connection (Virtual Private Network)
- Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA)
- Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
- Security enterprise and device management
- Cisco Security Agent (CSA)
- Network Admission Control (NAC)
- Solutions to optimize the above technologies in a single integrated network security solution
