Business intelligence and OLAP

In a company, data from different departments and divisions is often stored in a poorly coordinated manner. In order to support the company management in the decision-making process, this data must be linked and processed.

Business intelligence describes the systematic management of databases and the process of filtering out information from the company's internal database. The business intelligence concept is also about filtering patterns from the daily flood of information and making them accessible to management.
Business intelligence in a company is understood to be an analytical process that translates scattered company and competition data into action-oriented knowledge of the capabilities, impact patterns and goals of the dimensions under consideration.

Technical advances in database management, the creation of so-called data warehouses and the availability of sophisticated tools for data analysis (so-called OLAP tools) help here.

The information filtered out is used for decision-making and supports company management in being able to react quickly and well-informed to new developments. Business intelligence helps, for example, to better understand and quantify the development of cost structures or process flows. The management of the data is therefore the basis of a value-oriented company management.
