In foreign trade, the broken freight traffic is an essential means of transportt, because in many cases the foreign trade business cannot be carried out exclusively with a single mode of transport.
Location of exporter
Depending on the location of the exporter and importer, there may be more or less extensive, combined transport by land, sea and air. As a rule, freight forwarders are involved and standard packaging is used, e.g. B. Container.
The freight forwarder takes over the transport from the sender to the recipient as well as other services in connection with documents, insurance and customs in his own name, but on account of the exporter or importer.
Forwarding agent regulations (ADSp)
The legal basis in Germany are the General German Forwarding Regulations (ADSp) in accordance with the contract according to §§ 407 ff. HGB. In the case of a foreign freight forwarder, reference should be made to this provision in the contract.
In many cases, temporary storage is required when changing the means of transport. The warehouse keeper's job here is to ensure that the quality and quantity of the goods are maintained. He must pay compensation if he cannot prove that the damage occurred as a result of circumstances which he could not have avoided even with commercial diligence (Section 390 HGB).
A special form of broken freight transport is piggyback transport, in which sections of the route are taken over by rail and road vehicles, e.g. B. in the order road-rail-road. The entire truck stands on a railway wagon or only the loading part is transported without the tractor unit.
