What is biometric verification?
Biometric verification is an identity authentication process used to confirm a purported identity through uniquely identifiable biological features such as fingerprints and hand geometry.
It is designed so that a user can prove their identity by providing a biometric pattern and an associated unique identification code in order to gain access to a secure environment.
Biometric verification is used in place of the username and password authentication scheme because it is nearly impossible to replicate an individual's biological signatures, unlike usernames which can be guessed or stolen. It is one of the most secure authentication systems available.
The process begins by obtaining a biometric sample via a scan of the attribute selected for identification, e.g. B. fingerprints, hand geometry, iris patterns, face geometry or speech patterns. The sample is then compared to a database of known authorized personnel, and if that sample is positive, the user is prompted to authenticate using the unique identification code associated with the sample. If both parameters match, access is granted. This is standard for what is known as a two-step verification process, where access requires two parameters.
