What is application discovery?
Application discovery is a process of identifying and collecting the applications installed and used across the enterprise. This process enables you to capture, monitor and manage the entire portfolio of applications that are used in an IT environment or on individual computers and networks, e.g. B. Business / productivity applications, database applications, client / server applications, and more.
The application search is primarily part of an APM solution suite (Application Performance Management / Monitoring). It is implemented to identify and monitor the various applications and services within an organization. As a rule, the application search is carried out using automated APM software that works via the network and reaches all systems, servers and network nodes within the IT environment.
The data is then sent back to the APM application discovery dashboard for evaluation and analysis. Application detection is also used as a security measure to identify any unwanted / unverified applications running or residing on any part of the network.
