What is Active Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED)?
Organic light emitting diode with active matrix (AMOLED) is a light emitting and thin film display technology in which electroluminescent organic compounds are arranged on a base layer. With significantly less power consumption and no backlight, it is preferred in displays for portable electronic devices, battery operated devices, and large displays.

Active organic light emitting diodes use a thin film transistor that is used to control the pixels. They consist of organic molecules, anode and full cathode layers. The thin film transistor array helps determine which pixels should be activated to create the image.

There are many advantages to using AMOLEDs. Compared to other display technologies, AMOLEDs have a higher contrast ratio and a faster response time. They are light, offer great flexibility and can also be processed at low temperatures. They have a high luminous efficacy and outperform their passive matrix organic light-emitting counterparts by delivering the same performance but using significantly less power.

AMOLEDs haben einen unbegrenzten Betrachtungswinkel und sind auch selbst emittierend. Ihre Produktionskosten sind möglicherweise die niedrigsten unter den bestehenden Technologien, und sie können auch eine größere Color palette als LCD anzeigen. AMOLEDs werden in tragbaren elektronischen Geräten bevorzugt, da ihr Batterieleistungsverbrauch wesentlich geringer ist. Aus dem gleichen Grund werden sie bevorzugt für große Displays wie Billboards, elektronische Schilder und Großbildfernseher. Die schnellen Aktualisierungsraten der AMOLEDs machen sie auch für Videos geeignet.
