What is a leadership approach

A leadership approach is a clearly prepared statement system in which the results of leadership research are summarized. It is also known as leadership theory and forms the basis of leadership theory.

The following types of management approaches can be distinguished:

Property approach

The traits approach, which assumes that the qualities of the manager are decisive for leadership success. The leader stands out against the led z. B. through knowledge, skills, self-confidence, dexterity, constitution and intelligence. This approach is the oldest explanatory approach used by leadership.

Behavioral approach,

The behavioral approach that deals primarily with leadership styles, which can be classic, traditional, directional, group-oriented and dimensional leadership styles. The focus of the considerations is the question of how successful managers behave when they have to lead employees.

Situation approach

The situation approach, in which the type of leadership is aligned with the respective leadership situation. This is z. B. given with the contingency approach, which brings the positional power of the manager, the relationship between manager and employee and the concrete task structure in direct connection with each other. Depending on the situation, the appropriate leadership style then emerges.

Interaction approach

The interaction approach that is mainly discussed in the German-speaking area. With him, the personality structure of the leader, the group members, the group and the leadership situation are seen in an interactive relationship. The interaction approach emphasizes the interactions between these factors.
