Mutterschutz ist der Schutz von Müttern, die in einem Arbeitsverhältnis stehen (siehe auch Mutterschutzgesetz). Danach dürfen Mütter in den letzten sechs Wochen vor der errechneten Geburt und acht Wochen nach der Entbindung nicht beschäftigt werden. Eine Reihe von Schutzvorschriften sollen zusätzlich Gesundheitsgefährdungen von Mutter und Kind ausschließen. Mehrbelastungen von Müttern etwa durch Akkordarbeit oder Nachtarbeit usw. sind verboten. Ein besonderes Kündigungsverbot soll sie außerdem vor Arbeitsplatzverlust schützen. Als finanzielle Hilfe wird ein Maternity allowance gewährt.
