Management Control ist im Sprachgebrauch der amerikanischen Managementliteratur die Gesamtheit aller Führungsaufgaben, die der Durchsetzung und Überwachung der geplanten Entscheidungen dienen. In sinngemäßer Übersetzung könnte man von „Unternehmenssteuerung“ sprechen. „Control“ ist also mehr als „Kontrolle“. Controlling bedeutet im amerikanischen Sprachgebrauch die Wahrnehmung von „Control“. Controlling im deutschen Sinne wird im amerikanischen mit „Controllership“ bezeichnet.
