What is cloud encryption gateway?
A cloud encryption gateway is a technology that provides point-of-process encryption for data moving in and out of a cloud environment.
It is a tool that sits between a cloud system and an in-house system and performs the encryption or tokenization of data in transit. The resulting 'shielded' data can then be used securely by Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications.
A cloud encryption gateway is useful for third-party systems and other CRM solutions as it can provide anti-malware protection and other benefits, including helping to comply with key industry standards such as HIPAA.
Other data encryption strategies, in addition to encryption gateways, include full disk encryption, which searches the entire operating system platform for information that needs to be encrypted; Database encryption, which can be similar to a cloud encryption gateway; and even encryption solutions that can be run by a hypervisor in a virtual environment.
