What is chat acronym?
A chat acronym is a type of acronym that has emerged as a short form in text messaging, online chat, and even email. Chat acronyms are used by many other names such as Internet slang or shorthand, Netspeak or Chatspeak. Developed primarily through common usage, these abbreviations allow users to communicate more quickly and concisely, especially via mobile devices or other forums where restrictive character use is important.
Chat acronyms often do not apply to esoteric IT concepts, but rather to real situations in which they are used to express a user's emotions. For example, some of the most popular chat acronyms include LOL (laugh out loud) and ROFL (roll on the floor laughing). With the advent of the internet as a means of public communication, this and others, like IMHO (in my humble opinion), have become very useful shorthand.
