What is G.721?
G.721 ist eine veraltete ITU-T-Empfehlung, die jetzt durch den Standard G.726 abgelöst wird. ITU-T is a subgroup of this agency known as the telecommunications standardization sector. The G-Series recommendations are among the many standards imposed by the organization. As with any dynamic standards organization, these specifications are constantly evolving and improving.

G.721 and its neighboring recommendations belong to the family of standards for processing digital audio signals. ADPCM converts analog signals into digital signals by sampling. ADPCM is considered a codec (coder-decoder) due to its conversion of the audio signal. The recommendation G.721 was defined with a transmission rate of 32 kbit / s.

G.721 wurde 1984 eingeführt. Die G.726-Empfehlung ersetzte sowohl G.721 als auch G.723 im Jahr 1990. G.726 verwendet ebenfalls ADPCM, aber es hat Vorteile gegenüber G.721, wie die Fähigkeit, mit mehreren Bits zu senden Raten.
